Must-Have Kitchen Equipment
Instant Pots and Accessories
These are my favorite pressure cookers and kitchen gadgets that I rely on nearly every day.
The Instant Pot 6-Quart Duo is my workhorse. This one lives on my counter, incubating my yogurt every weekend and cooking a main dish or side almost every evening.
The Instant Pot 6-Quart Lux was my first Instant Pot, before I even knew about the yogurt thing. It’s my backup machine while my yogurt is incubating, or when pot-in-pot cooking isn’t practical. I still love it.
Extra Instant Pot sealing rings are a necessity, as your original ring will develop odors that you won’t want getting into your yogurts and sweets. I generally use the red for spicy, fragrant foods, and the blue for milder stuff.
Stackable steamer insert pans are awesome for pot-in-pot cooking. You can use the pots singly or stacked together, and they come with a handy lifting rack. I always use one of the pans to cook rice on my tall trivet.
ThermoPro TP03 Digital Instant Read Meat Thermometer. This is great for meats, baked goods, grilling–anything where a quick read is necessary.
This steamer basket is perfect for so many things. Stack eggs inside for perfect hardboiled eggs, making it easy to remove them all at once for cooling.
Conventional Pressure Cookers
Oh, I love my Instant Pots. But conventional pressure cookers are pretty awesome (I have three), and nothing to fear. No, you can’t just walk away from them like you can with the Instant Pot, but these pans are pretty great, and I use them all the time. These are my faves:
This is not your grandmother’s pressure cooker! The Kuhn-Rikon 8 1/2 qt stockpot is simply the best. The new-generation pressure cookers have a lot of built-in safety features and are very quiet. The stainlesss-steel, Swiss-made Kuhn-Rikons are heavy stainless steel with an aluminum-core bottom, ensuring even browning and perfect heat distribution.
The Kuhn-Rikon braiser is perfect for larger roasts and other flat cuts of meat to allow even searing and plenty of cooking space. This is also my go-to pan for chicken cacciatore. Ninja Foodi
